Fire at the Flea Market
Our favorite flea market, in Milton,WV, burned to the ground in little over an hour last Wednesday afternoon.
Built in 1989 I believe, and was the largest in the Tri-state area.
It was unique in it's size, clean and well-organized, with well over 300 friendly, helpfull vendors, loaded with antiques and collectibles, tools, fresh produce, sporting goods, and many other wonderful booths too numerous to mention.
It was a great place to spend a lazy Saturday or Sunday afternoon. There were on average 10 to 11,000 visitors to this flea market on the banks of the Mud River on any given weekend.
It will be sorely missed!
There is nothing left of the areas in red except smoldering ashes and distorted, melted sheet metal. The outside areas marked in blue are intact, but heavily damaged.
The owner says she plans to rebuild, and will install a sprinkler system this time!
Good idea!

that's too bad
I remember this post.
@seedsower - Actually, I misspoke. She is going to rebuild.
A sprinkler system is a good idea! I am glad he is going to rebuild!
Sprinklers would be a good idea!
I am not surprised, they are wooden shacks and have space heaters in the winter, there is one here that is cement with a long roof and just tables no walls, that is the only one that is not slung together. But I love to go and poke around!
@seedsower - When I searched Google for video on this fire, it shocked me with the number of flea market fires they have on file!
Sorry,I love our Flea Markets, they all seem like fire traps though.
@Danth - Hard to believe that all happened in an hour. Used to go there once a month or so, sure will miss it!
Looks like pictures that come out of Iraq!
