  • It was time......

Nay, some would say way, way past time!

This old deck needs pressure washed in a bad way!!!!!!!!

The last time I cleaned this deck was around 15 years ago, using a gas powered 1500 PSI pressure washer, that took 3 days and was a heck of a lot of work!

Around 4 or 5 years ago, Karen bought me a little electric pressure washer as a Christmas present, and it was still in the box, unopened, in the basement. In my know it all male mind I'm thinking, if the big pressure washer took 3 days to do the job, this tiny little thing will never work!

    Hahaha, was I ever wrong!

Got it out of the box Saturday morning and it worked perfectly! Light weight and easy to use, no chemicals needed at all, we were done with the larger section by 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Couldn't have been easier!

As an added bonus, I found something Matt likes to do!

    deck 008

By Sunday afternoon we were done with the main parts of both sides of the deck with a little bit of cleanup left to do around the outside and the deck poles. Matt said he'll take care of that this week. Woohoo!

    Check out the difference!

It's hard to believe that deck is 28 years old, it looks like new!

If you agree, rec this post?

What better way to celebrate the rebirth of the old deck than char broiling some inch thick rib-eyes on the old grill?

    deck 017

Look at the wood around that grill! Amazing, ey?

It's warm weather, grilling season is upon us again, and Buddly's back.

    Bon Apetite, all yall!

  • Clouds over the Ohio

The flood waters finally went down over at Virginia Point so I drove over at lunch to look around.

Though it had been grey and overcast all day, the clouds were spectacular!

Hard to believe the 1st of December is only two days away, and it's in the mid sixties here today!

Won't be for long, tho. Lows in the 20's and highs in the 30's coming this weekend!

Speaking of work, I should be getting back to mine, lol.

     See ya next time, peeps!

  • If You Don't Like the Weather in Kentucky........

There's an old adage around here that says "If you don't like the weather in Kentucky, stick around a couple of days, it'll change!", and it certainly rang true last weekend!

Friday and Saturday were unbearably hot and humid with temps around 100 and not a breath of air stirring anywhere. Sunday started out the same, but by mid afternoon torrential rains and high winds blew through, dropping the temp about 20 degrees and breaking the humidity. Labor day morning broke with the temps in the 50's, grey and drizzly was to be the name of the game, with highs in the mid 60's.

A perfect day to stay inside, stay dry, and make a big ol pot of Buddly's 3 Bean Chili!

First, as Socks would say, we start with the setup!

    3 bean chili 001

1 and 1/2 lbs of lean ground chuck

1/2 lb Jimmy Dean's Hot Sausage

1-8 oz can of tomato sauce

    1 cup tomato juice

1 16 oz can petite diced tomatos

    3 tbsps fresh chili powder

    Hot sauce

3 different types of canned beans

    1 medium onion, diced

6 cloves of garlic, minced finely

1/4 cup each hot bannana pepper rings and chopped jalapenos

12 oz bottle of beer! (forgot to get it in the picture)

    Salt and pepper to taste

Crumble the meat in a large pot or Dutch oven.

    3 bean chili 002

When it starts to brown, add the onion and salt and pepper.

When well browned, I use that little strainer thingee to drain the fat off the meat into a bowl in the sink.

    3 bean chili 003

After draining the fat, add the minced garlic and peppers, and simmer for another 5 minutes.

    3 bean chili 004

Add chili powder and stir to evenly coat the meat mixture.

    3 bean chili 005

Add the beans. Rinse white beans and kidneys, but use the chili beans as is, broth and all.

    3 bean chili 006

Add tomatoes, stir, and simmer another 5 to 6 minutes.

    3 bean chili 007

Add the rest of the ingredients, bring to a boil, then simmer, stirring often for an hour or so.

    3 bean chili 008

I use about 2 tbsps of Texas Pete and 1 and 1/2 tsp of salt and 1/2 tsp of black pepper. Just for reference, adjust to suit your tastes.

    3 bean chili 009

Looks like it's ready to serve, and I'm hungry!

Sprinkle with a little cheddar cheese, a dab of sour cream, some crispy saltines, and I'm ready to eat!

    3 bean chili 010

    Bon appetit, y'all!!!

  • I'll be back. Soon, I hope!

Kinda new at this heart attack stuff. I had no idea that two heart attacks, triple by-pass surgery, replacing of the aortal valve, and repairing a mytral valve could take so much out of a man!

It's been a little over three weeks since the surgery, and I'm finally able to get up and about by myself for a bit at a time. I'm seeing five or six different doctors on a weekly appointment basis, and start cardiac therapy next Tuesday.

My appetite is slowly coming back, so that's gotta be a good sign, eh!

I can not thank all of you enough, friends and non-friends alike, that flooded my hospital room with well wishes and cards! As well as the posts and comments made on here wishing me well. They all meant so much to me, they truely did.

There really is no place else online quite like Xanga!

    Buddly will be back.

Grilling season is not over yet!

  • Buddly's three day weekend

    Saturday.

Our daughter Carly came home from Omaha for her daughters graduation and Memorial Day.

    Memorial Day weekend 018

    Memorial Day weekend 019

Her daughter Jasmine, Carly, and son Ethan.

Since she would be leaving Sunday morning, we had a cookout fot the kids and grandkids on Saturday.

I grilled some weenies for burnt weenie sammiches and Karen made a big skillet full of Manwich, put out some chips, watermelon and cantaloupe, and some 2 liter bottles of sodie pops.

I didn't take any pics of the cookout fare, but most of you have seen my weenie anyway. Don't wanna over do it!

    Memorial Day weekend 017

    Sunday.

It was just Karen and I on Sunday, so we picked up some nice hefty filet mignons and some stuffed crabs at Walmart that morning.

    Memorial Day weekend 002

    Memorial Day weekend 003

    Memorial Day weekend 004

Mmmmmm! Medium rare filets, a couple of crabs, half a baked potato, and rolls. Don't get any better than that!

Just a nice quiet Sunday at home.

    Yay!

    Monday.

Karen's mom, two of her sisters, a nephew and grand niece came over around 4 for dinner.

    Menu:

    Grilled pork loin

    Steamed asparagus

    Boiled and fried new potatoes

Fresh tomatoe, cucumber, and onion medley tossed with Italian dressing

My world famous shrimp and macaroni salad

    Fresh watermelon and cantaloupe tray

    Sister's Parker House rolls

And, oh yeah, Key Lime pie!

Started with a 5lb pork loin, marinated overnight in Coca-Cola, garlic, and salt and pepper.

    Memorial Day weekend 008

Browned him nicely on all sides, then moved it to the back of the grill and turned the rear burner off and the front to medium heat.

    Memorial Day weekend 009

Made a little sauce to baste him with from 1/3 cup of apple juice and 1/3 cup of Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce. Slathered him up and closed the lid. Went out about every 15 minutes, turned it, and rebasted.

After about and hour and fifteen minutes,

    TaaaaDaaaa!

    Pork perfection!

    Memorial Day weekend 010

Everyone showed up on time (thankee Lord) and we sat the table.

Karen was busy while I was grillin'!

    Boiled and fried new potatoes.

    Memorial Day weekend 013

    Steamed asparagus.

    Memorial Day weekend 014

    Cucumer, tomatoe and onion medley.

    Memorial Day weekend 012

And the headliner, grilled pork perfection!

    Memorial Day weekend 006

    It's time to eat!

  • A VW Bus for Jill, and some foggy river pics.

Saw this parked down on the corner on Easter Sunday.

    VW 001

Soon as I saw it, I thought of Jill! Had to walk down and get a closer look.

    VW 003

Looks like it just rolled out of the showroom! Haven't seen one that pristine in years. By the late seventies it seemed every one you saw was covered in peace signs and flowers. lol

They're still out there Jill, don't give up on those dreams!

I'm thinking it was the next morning around 7:15 when I went out to start my truck and saw this tugboat idling in the high waters of the Ohio.

Made this one my new wallpaper.

After about five minutes he powered up and slowly headed on upriver.

Karen liked this bridge shot, so I set it as her new wallpaper.

About Me

  • VietNam Vet and proud of it! "War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." -John Stuart Mill
