First Time Since the Flood
You guys remember the flood waters I had in the back yard last month. Right?
And that I found a crew to clean it up for $125.00?
It all looked pretty good from the deck. Didn't look so good as I was mowing for the first time this spring!
Guess I can't really complain, they did clean up the debris that was in the actual yards.
And after first mow, they look pretty good.
But the creek and riverbanks are a whole different story!
Looks like they pushed or threw everything right to the edge, and stopped.
It's kinda iffy whether some of this is actually out of the yard or not, but I'll give them the benefit of a doubt.
I guess they just didn't see those two tires hiding there in plain sight.
This would be a good time for a brush fire. just sayin
Sorry about the quality of the pics. Took em with my phone.
If the water comes back up into the yard again this spring, all of that flotsam and jetsam will come right back with it!
Gonna have to start praying it only comes up to the top edge of the river bank and no higher.
And spending some time over the next couple of weekends tossing driftwood back into the river.
Couple of old sayings come to mind about now.
You get what you pay for, and if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. lol

Lazy SOBs! The whole generation is like that!
what a scene

I agree about the riding mower =)

I have to tell you Buddlyman, it seems that there's a twisted balance to the "get what you pay for" theory. I have lost branches from trees and had trees trimmed. We have seen terrible workers, and those who gave a damn about the quality in their work. It's people. Individuals who take the time to put forth the efffort. The rest are just blah blah blah-er's who just don't get the fantastic payoff from a job well done. Call them back and tell them that little theory. (toothy smile)
I think they probably would have finished up the job for say, maybe, $135?
Man, that bites! And when I started looking at your pics I was thinking "you get what you pay for" and apparently you thought that too!!! Hopefully you don't get another flood any time soon! And I would def go with a big huge bonfire!!
Sigh! Hope you can clear that stuff out before the river rises again... You might contact the artist community. Some of the ceramic artists that do wood fired kilns are always looking for free wood. just saying.
You start the fire, I'll bring the burgers. I just bought a patty press. It's my new favorite toy.
If you have weenie/spam/vienna sausage/bacon skewers at your cookout, save one for me.
bonfire, bonfire!
That's a lot of branches
It's beer and bonfire time!
@mtngirlsouth - Haha! Good idea! My son-in-law is a musician.
YIKES! I do love a nice bonfire though! We will be having one of our own soon when we clear all the debris from the long snowy winter here. We have lots of branches and pine cones to burn. If you have a few buddies who play instruments, you can have a good old fashioned shindig!
@seedsower - With all that firewood that would be one huge weenie roast!
@Cestovatelka - Mmmmm, smores!
@PaintingFl0wers - Thanks. Don't see much hope for that, tho. With all this rain the river's on the way back up now.
Looks like they did as little as possible! I hope the water stays away from your yard for the rest of the spring!
Ooo, a fire?! I'll bring the stuff for smores!
I like Mark's idea first then the weenie roast one will work if that one fails.
It looks like to really clean that up is a lot more work than one person can do alone,
too bad the neighbors don't have a work day to pull together and get it all cleaned up.
@Margo73 - @WildWomanOfTheWest - We'll get it cleaned up, one way or another. River's coming up again right now, maybe it'll float some of it away?
@LoBornlytesThoughtPalace - Hahaha! I shoulda walked down and looked over the bank before I paid em!
@ItIsAllGravy - Bring some weinies!!!!!!!!!!!
@guestbrief - @VilaSpiderHawkAuthor - I gave them the benefit of the doubt because I only asked them to clean up the yards. Should've asked them to get the driftwood back into the river!
@GoodGuyTheBoss - You're not doing a very good job, the river's coming up already!
bonfire at buddly's!
@Diva_Jyoti_3 - With 2 acres, you gotta have a riding mower!
@freakygirlwannabee - Bricker will bring the beer, you bring the marshmallows?
That's quite a bit of leftover yet to clean up.
~and I suggested you grill burgers for their work. hahaha~
We've got about three piles to burn~ but with Oklahoma being on fire with the drought and wind, the hotdogs and marshmallows will have to wait.
Oh my, hopefully you can get it all cleared.
I was expecting a tale of strong drink and wild women. Instead it was one more reminiscent of Noah climbing of his ark and yelling, "WTF!"
Oh dear. Did you instruct them to haul away the debris? This is a shame!
I think they needed glasses.....:} You were kind to give them the benefit of the doubt!
Looks like you do have a ton of clean up but actually your yard still looks infinitely better then mine. What was I thinking that it would be cool to have 2 acres. CRAZY. I now LONG for a riding mower but can't afford it yet.
I think those pix are GREAT quality!
i'd be callin' for do-overs!
but a bonfire does sound like fun!
@buddly47 - oh my goodness what a hoot
@buddly47 - hmm, I wonder what the fire dept might spray in your yard, though. might want to find out first.
That is a bummer. I tried to save money on a bathroom remodel a couple of falls ago. I got what I paid for, too.
Who knew yards were subjective. How far does a yard actually go? Maybe they only think of yards as the green stuff around the house. Hope you get it cleaned before the next big rain. We have had 2 days straight of rain here in Central Oh. I'll try not to let it go down the ohio river.
@SisterMae - That must be what it was, cause they picked all the stuff up around em! lol
Oh my goodness they missed those tires hmmm guess they were just too big to see
@pinkmojomama - Haha! Well, they did what they said they'd do, they got it out of the yards!
Those rat bastards!!!
@tymedancer - You could probably chip the smaller stuff, but some of those logs are 10 feet long and around 18 inches in diameter.
@MedicMark - That's not a bad idea, Mark!
Hmm wonder if there is a machine you can rent that will chip all of that stuff up for you so that you can reuse it for something.
See if the local fire dept will come do a controlled burn of brush at your place. They get to train, you get to burn out some brush.
A bonfire does sound good.
@Bricker59 - Weinie roast extraordinaire, eh? Bring lots of beer! lol
@Roadkill_Spatula - All of that junk came out of the river last month, and there's plenty more where that came from. That junk still on the banks will just make it worse.
Looks like it's time for a bonfire!
Invite all the family and friends and get them to help feed it.
I suspect that if you had a real flood, even if that junk were cleared, you'd get plenty of flotsam from other sources.
