The Pumpkin House
The Pumpkin House
in
Kenova, WVa
Ric Griffith, the man behind the famous Kenova Pumpkin House, has carved over 25,000 pumpkins since 1978. Every year, he puts thousands of carved jack-o’-lanterns on the porch, roof, and yard of his 115-year-old Victorian house. It’s kind of like a pumpkin wonderland
Last year’s display included a fantastic 40' by 40' wall of carved jack-o’-lanterns with lights synchronized to Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.
I believe this year Ric is going to shoot for over 3100 carved pumpkins on display!
Happy Halloween!
When Ric's not busy carving pumpkins, he spends his days at
Griffith and Feil"s Pharmacy and Soda Fountain in Kenova.
I'll post some more pictures of this 50's style soda fountain later. You won't believe what this place looks like inside.

I love roasted pumpkin seeds.
The carvings are very creative, this is such a unique display. I liked his answers to Ellen,he seems like a genuinely nice guy.
uh, yeah, I am, but gee, why should I change now, it has served me so well for so long. Okay, it hasn't but, what can I do about it now?

@adventofreason - No. You're not!
@buddly47 - red, red wine you make me feel so . . . sleepy. I am hopeless. Absolutely.
@angi1972 - Pack up the monsters and come on down around Halloween, we'll take ya on the free dollar tour!
@adventofreason - There's a lot to be said for a glass or two of red red wine.
There are times, when I wonder to myself, if it is too late to pick up the drinking habit. Thoughts?
That looks SO COOL...
I am a jack o latern fan...
getting there sorry i am such a drag. : (
@adventofreason - I'm doing great, working a little late today. Got a fondness for roasted pumpkin seeds myself! Are you feeling any better today?

@CzarnyEffingKruk - Hell, the Ashland area is where I live! If you ever get back thru here, let me know, I'll buy you a few cold ones!
Bud, thank you for sharing this with us . . . how fun. I haven't carved a pumpkin in a long time. I love roasted pumpkin seeds though. Hope you are doing great.

That's pretty darn cool! I've never seen the pumpkin hosue, but I've been by the pharmacy before. I used to hang in the Ashland - Huntington - Kenova area when I ran with my old buddy Rob McNurlin.
I am great! Internet - less, but I have adapted. this is a busy time of the year for those of us who make a living from our crafts - I am in the studio constantly - and when I am not, I am at a craft fair selling my wares. It is all good. Right now I'm babysitting my sweet granddaughter. Life is good....S
@BianchiStreet - I'm doing well. More importantly, how are you?
@BianchiStreet - It is a beautiful old Victorian home in it's own right. Hells bells, come on down, you'll fit right in, I'm sure!
Yes, it is! And the people who live there, obviously have some spunk! Thanks for sharing - how are you? Well, I hope...S
OMG! I want to live THERE!
@buddly47 - oh that's pretty cool! i had no idea! thanks for reminding me not to jump to conclusions ^______^
@Bricker59 - Damn! Thanks for reminding me Bricker!! LOL
@buddly47 - You need to remember bud, beer isn't just for breakfast anymore!
@Bricker59 - It's not beer-thirty for me yet. Maybe in a couple of hours!
@MooncatBlue - It used to be a lot worse when they used candles to light them, but Ric's rewired the house about 4 times and uses electric lights now.
@MrsHammett - They give the tops, bottoms, and the carvings to Habitat for the Homeless to use make breads and pies, so it's not all wasted.
@Still_groovy - Thanks Kathi, you ought to see it in person. It's pretty amazing!
Sort of looks like a fire hazard to me =0P Still a pretty sight.
Incredible!!!!
I look at the faces on those pumpkins, and I'm pretty sure I dated half of them.
Thanks for sharing bud, beer time!
no wonder other countries think we waste food, but nonetheless, amazing
That is just TOO cool! The house is perfect for the pumpkins and vice versa!
