Unqueered Melody!
I was coming in to work this morning around four thirty and thought I'd turn on the radio for a little company. The night was at it's darker just before dawn stage, and the only sound I could hear was my tires singing on the blacktop, and it was getting a tad hypnotic!
Tuned in to a local oldies station and the first thing I heard was the opening to "Unchained Melody" by The Righteous Brothers. Now, I liked the song well enough when it was released in 1965, but in later years I also saw the movie "Ghost" (my personal choice for one of the schmaltziest movies ever made) and to be honest, it sorta queered me on the song. Every time I heard it, Whoopie Goldberg would pop into my head! Trust me, that's not the kind of mental image I want to pack around all day!
Why couldn't it have been Demi taking up residence in my brain?
But, this morning was a bit different. It seemed totally fresh, like I was hearing it for the first time. And, it was incredible!
I was like unqueered all of a sudden! Whoopie was nowhere to be found in my head! Yay!
In my humble opinion, Bill and Bobby's vocal tone and range have not been matched or surpassed by any pop singer to this day. Even as much as I like LeAnn Rimes, her version pales in comparison.
So turn your volume up, and if you have the time, give it a listen. This is the original stereo version released in 1965.
Enjoy it, I know I did!
PS: Thanks to @amateurprose for the much better title!

I enjoy that song a lot... it's a classic. glad it was "unchained" for you.
I love Righteous Brothers, and have seen the movie GHOST several times. I am unable to open the video here, apparently the YouTube account on this video has been terminated. Oh well. Have a great weekend Harold.
This song has revived you
I love Unchained Melody, by the way It's the greatest love song ever written and performed.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you liked what you saw and read
Darn! I missed the video cause' it's no longer available.
One of my all-time favorites! Ahhh....
I still can't listen without seeing Whoopie. I can only hope someday it will happen to me.
@buddly47 - 1955 -- I was in HS, too! Amazing how strong those memories are!
@distractedbyzombies - Whoopie was the only thing about that movie that I truly enjoyed. I just watched it last week...desperation television...ha!
@buddly47 - Yes, ((SMILES)) but I LOVE/D Whoopie in this movie. She is my favorite comediene. I have watched Jumpin' Jack Flash many times - ha! - and, no doubt, will watch it, again. I mean: how can you not LOVE Terry Dolittle? ((sigh)) Hmmmmm...I have netflix! I think I'll go watch it, again! MUAH!
@amateurprose - I'll forward them as they come in!
@distractedbyzombies - Even the Whoopie part? Hi, Mark!
@buddly47 - Please send me royalty checks!
like you, I love that song but I hated that scene in Ghost. The rest of the movie wasn't so bad.
@SandraErickson - So good to see you, Sandra! Great minds think alike, ey? Well, one great mind and a loon, but it's close! hahaha
This is one of my all time favorite songs, too (also "tainted" by the movie Ghost - ha! ) Wonderful to hear it, again, Thanks for that.
@SaintBlue1131 - Hahaha, but she's no Demi, Bede!
Nice I like those revelatory moments with songs pr things you judged one way.
But whats wrong with Woopie?...she's a pretty cool brain companion
@Cestovatelka - Some loved the movie, I not so much.
@Babyboomerjill - Righteous for sure, Jilly!
@slmret - Me too Janet, I was a junior in high school when this came out!
@UncCharlie - Agreed! The wife and I danced to it on a Christmas cruise up the Ohio River. Good times!
@amateurprose - Wish I had thought of that! So, I'm gonna steal it!
Now this is what I call "soul music". Great slow dance memories.
I love love love this song. I grew up listening to Motown-era music and this was one of my faves
And I have yet to see Ghost.
Wow -- that takes me all the way back to high school days!!!
Righteous Brothers or Everly Brothers? I always get them mixed up.
My little sister lives near a college and she signs up for pottery class all the time and we tease her about being in love with this movie. lol
@MRS. BUDDLY -

@a_thousandmiles -
I never watched Ghost, so no connections for me! Sounds like you had a sweet start of a morning~
This is a beautiful rendition BTW...
It's a beautiful song now, like it has been through the years. I wasn't terribly enthralled with Ghost.
Lately I have been scrounging around youtube checking out live performances by a multitude of legends from the 30's all the way up to the present. I am amazed at some of the oldies musicians and their performances as they age! Last night I was watching some Paul McCartney at 70!
yeah, Whoopie can ruin things when she pops into mind, along those lines.
this is a beautiful, beautiful song.
I made the time...
I missed ever watching ghost all the way through when it was relevant. in fact I missed a lot of relative things in my times. I don't believe I ever attended a secular concert until hell froze over eagles. all the rest were chairy things with the oldies and such. ..for the fraternal order of police or the local kool oldies station. Ihad to show up to caje *pronounced cage and they weren't shorthanding cajun. to find a "mosh pit" stage diving, all the things of dreams ...I left happy but there is afeeling like roudy on a monday night small timecheer the bar hero and theres famr.
cheers had bobby andthat was tv moment underscoring the glitz of moment http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0539923/
A song like this deserves `Your` own images in your head! I still see those 2 sitting at that potters wheel, dog gon it!
@seedsower - It was kinda surreal!
I agree , the vocals are incredible, I love when I hear a song in a new light and rediscover it.
@PrisonerxOfxLove - @amateurprose - Hahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!
Ha! Unqueered Melody!
It couldn't have happened to a nicer man.
