My growing up in the 50's and 60's is showing again, isn't it?
You heard this everywhere at Christmas time when I was a kid. Everywhere! In stores, outside of stores on loudspeakers, in the elevator, even on the school bus from transistor radios.
In 1958, while still just 13, Brenda recorded Papa Noel, a cajun-flavored song, and Rockin' around the Christmas tree. Expected to be a massive hit, it missed the charts completely, though Brenda wasn't yet in the big time. Following the multi-million selling I'm sorry in 1960, a decision was taken to try again that Christmas. This time, the song went high in the charts, not just in America, but around the world.
Brenda was kinda cute, too.
And that sax ain't bad, either!
Merry Christmas, Xangaland!
