It was time......
Nay, some would say way, way past time!

This old deck needs pressure washed in a bad way!!!!!!!!
The last time I cleaned this deck was around 15 years ago, using a gas powered 1500 PSI pressure washer, that took 3 days and was a heck of a lot of work!
Around 4 or 5 years ago, Karen bought me a little electric pressure washer as a Christmas present, and it was still in the box, unopened, in the basement. In my know it all male mind I'm thinking, if the big pressure washer took 3 days to do the job, this tiny little thing will never work!
Hahaha, was I ever wrong!
Got it out of the box Saturday morning and it worked perfectly! Light weight and easy to use, no chemicals needed at all, we were done with the larger section by 5 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Couldn't have been easier!
As an added bonus, I found something Matt likes to do!
By Sunday afternoon we were done with the main parts of both sides of the deck with a little bit of cleanup left to do around the outside and the deck poles. Matt said he'll take care of that this week. Woohoo!
Check out the difference!
It's hard to believe that deck is 28 years old, it looks like new!
If you agree, rec this post?
What better way to celebrate the rebirth of the old deck than char broiling some inch thick rib-eyes on the old grill?
Look at the wood around that grill! Amazing, ey?
It's warm weather, grilling season is upon us again, and Buddly's back.
Bon Apetite, all yall!

power washers kick ass!!!
yay!
I am only a month late !!
Like you I had a little electric washer pressure but it ramained a long time in its box . I use it rarely!! But this is dreadfully efficient . You give me an idea for the pavement and the roof of the shelter covered with mouss .
I checkd your site from time to time like today.
I am glad you have posted .

It looks great! I hope you'll post some more.
What a beautiful deck. My mother n I started power washing ours last year and repainted it. I had a BLAST! lol
Wow! I wonder if one of those things could make me look 20 years younger too?
Looks great! You HAVE to tell us the brand and model of the pressure washer after that! lol
Looks so much better
The deck looks great, even better with grilled steaks!!!
Your high pressure washer is dreadfully efficient and gives some ideas to do the same with some old doors of shed .
It is a not measurable pleasure to cook the ribs on such renovated deck!
Compliments Harold !

I love the smell of boiled linseed oil in the afternoon... with a castor oil whif of cig boats off the coast.

Looks fantastic!
WOW... Who wouldn't enjoy sitting on that deck enjoying the weather and the view. You just made me hungry looking at those steaks and it's like 3:10 in SoCal... The deck does look brand new. Very nice!!
looks good we need to do that to ours
I was just looking at our deck this morning, thinking it might be time to paint it, but I think I'll give pressure washing a try first. Good job, man! You deserved the steaks. Glad to see you back.
@History_Nut - He'd probably rather not remember, Wanda!
It looks brand new, Harold! I wonder if Sweetheart has forgotten he has a power washer in the closet.
@buddly47 - I can't say no to crab cakes! yumm!
@buddly47 - Hey Bud, I went through a smallish, rough patch but everything is fine now. Thanks for asking.
@BohemianLotus - Haha, you made a punny!
I already said this on the picture, but power washing looks like a "BLAST". See what I did there? Har har I'm SO funny. LOL But really it does look like a lot of fun. I don't have a deck either but I want one anyway!
@PPhilip - Yes sir! I used Olympic Overcoat golden oak stain and sealer. It could probably use another coat, tho.
@Kellsbella - That might work!
@kubaa785 - Thank you!
Wood outdoors is a pain. To really preserve the stuff you have to use marine varnish and do that every so couple of years. When you installed the deck did you put on varnish or wood preservatives on it?
So if I pick up some Coors Light, I can get a fella to pressure wash for me?
I really like your blog so I hope u will still write
@baldmike2004 - Thanks, Mike. Yeah, you can save a lot of money doing it yourself. I built this one back in '84. It was my first, and looks like my last.
Dear Harold,
An amazing transformation. Inspiring. What a wonder some seemingly "downsized" tools can be. I plan to build a deck/porch alongside my double wide sometime in the near future, and I've been scouring the lumber yards and preparing the budget for the job. Instead of just contracting a "specialist" I think I can probably save money building a wood deck myself.

@dinhtrinh - You and me both!
Seems that that deck will exist on this earth longer than me. So good wood!
@Randy7777 - You could smell the deck as we were cleaning it, too. Nasty!
Well done - I can smell the steaks -lol
@WakeUpLaughing - I got some crab cakes, they make a pretty good sammich!
@buddly47 - hahaha! I was on my iPad, so the photo was small and I thought they were burgers! I don't care if they're steaks...I wanna burger!!!
@BoulderChristina - He could use the work!
When I saw this yesterday I didn't notice the steaks, they look terrific! And I will be calling your son to put the pressure washer to work on my deck next!
@ata_grandma - That could be the hard part! lol
@MRS. BUDDLY - Grill, of course.
