Cleaning up the flood debris
The waters had pretty much returned to normal pool by Thursday evening last week, leaving behind quite a mess.
That was something that I, at 63, did not want to tackle on my own! Some of those water soaked logs could weigh as much as three or four hundred pounds
Fortunately, when I left the house Friday morning, there was an ad taped to the front door from Sanders Lawn Care saying that they did yard cleanups. Gave them a call and Mr. Sanders came over and gave me an estimate.
They would clean all that up, all four yards, for $125.00
Woohoo!
I would have gladly paid that on my own, much cheaper than the expenses incurred from the heart attack lifting those logs may have given me, but called my neighbor Tootie just to see if she would split it with me.
She jumped at the chance! Said she had had no idea how she was going to clean that up. She dropped by Sunday, gave me her half, and $35.00 for gas for the John Deere this summer.
Win, win all around! lol
Monday around five o'clock the lawn crew showed up. Read dad, mom, and teen aged son here. Dad said it was the son's business, he just helped him out. I was impressed! A teenaged boy that wants to work, and work hard, for his money is a rare creature indeed!
By eight that evening they had my yard and both the neighbors on each side of me done and were starting on Tootie's.
They came back yesterday evening and finished up.
Looks like I'm ready to mow again! Probably this weekend, if it doesn't rain.
It's still early spring but hopefully the water won't come back up again this year, but if it does, I know who I'm callin'!
And, it ain't GhostBusters!
And, yeah, I know it's a boring update.
But, that was my week.
Watched the water come up.
Then watched the water go down.
And had a beer or two while I waited. Didn't say it was all bad!

@baldmike2004 - Well, hopefully that big rock won't serve as a launching ramp if the big one does come, Mike.

@angi1972 - Haha, that's right, you was! I'm getting old, just blame it on short term memory loss.
All the best to you!!

The rain has started up yet again... hope it doesn't flood again, or you mind find another ad taped to your door for double the price!
Oh yeah, that's a steal. Looks like they did a great job. When the trees come down in the tropical storms here, they charge you an arm and a leg for removal.
Dear Harold,
Well, all I'm going to say is I'm going to stop complaining about the rain we've been getting here in SoCal.
I'm glad I don't live near a river. (The only "river" around here is a flood control basin...) And also glad when reading about tsunamis that there is a pretty big "rock" (the Palos Verdes peninsula) between my small mobile home and the great Pacific Ocean.
That is all.

@buddly47 - I was here yesterday!
Alright alright... so I've been a little absent, I'm trying. lol
@Donna7 - They really did. I kept their number, just in case!
@angi1972 - Hi Ang! Long time, no see!
Wow, they sure did a great job! That is someone I would recommend to others. Looks nice and fresh!
What a motivated family! I would have paid that too.
@seedsower - The blue barrel is the one thing they took with them when they left. They do come in handy sometimes!
They did such a good job! We have a blue barrel like that for a rain barrel ,it comes in handy hen we water the garden or wash the porch .
Soon you will be out there on the porch grilling and looking at the banks of the Ohio ,smiling til next year when she regurgitated all that crap up again!
@Lucy_or_Ethel - I sure did keep it, and told him I'd give him a call next time I needed anything. It's early in the year still, the river could rise again this spring.
That was indeed a good deal. Not only at that price but he got in and got it done. You kept his business card didn't you? If by chance you'd need help again you know who to call!
@heart_beep - He's a pretty good looking kid, too! Chocolate with my beer? Have ye gone plum daft, Jill? lol
My daughter needs to meet a hard working teen like that! Hey, Harold, would you like some chocolate with that beer?
@ugotafriend - Haha, for $1250, I'd have done it myself! Glad I didn't have to. lol
I was fairly certain that it was 1250 that they were going to charge. Glad that it wasn't sounds like a great deal. Good to have hard working teens around.
@Wild_and_Wicked - It's about the worst we've seen here in 30 years. It sure is a trampoline. He wanted an extra $25 to haul it off, so it's still here.
Pheww... that's a lot of debris and cleaning up to do. Oh... is that a trampoline in the corner???
@buddly47 - potato boats! scrummy nummy cheddar bacon chicken
@Roadkill_Spatula - @FatherFiguring - I couldn't agree more. I got lucky on that one!
@windupherskirt - Agreed, on all points! Thanks fer tha rec, Deephus!
@LoBornlytesThoughtPalace - I've always felt a little uneasy driving over swollen rivers. You be careful on the way back home, Charlie!
That's a heck of a deal for $125.
@I_once_was - That breakfast sounds good enuff to eat! But then, it's lunch time and I'm hongry!
It's neat to see a hardworking teen and parents who are willing to help. Great that you got it for so cheap.
Mother Nature's fury can sure mess up the yahd!! best $125 you ever spent!! glad yawl got it all under control!!
I just drove over the various big rivers that separate Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky on my why to Ashville, NC. I'm in Nashville at this very moment.
It's spooky how high the rivers are.
good, you didn't float face up downstream. you're better off not being fishfood. even if the update is indeed borning?? are you kiddin? do you know how hard it is to understand costs of an area? my area is a crew from the labor ready and would have been tripple that. knowing what the markets bear anywhere is darn fine information! now for breakfast- hmn.... you deserve but I'm on the case and the plate for the bottom end of a loaf with the guts hollowed out....a boat...on a river of scambled eggs....ham of coarse to indicate it's flood waters and debris
@lil_mama2499 - I agree! Kids like him are few and far between.
Wow! That is a GREAT price. They did a great job too, that young guy has a bright future I'm sure. We need more youth like him.
@pinkmojomama - I agree. I won't hesitate to call 'em again if I need 'em!
@Margo73 - They earned their money, that's for sure!
@WakeUpLaughing - Sure was, I expected it to be a lot more!
Wow! You got a bargain on that clean-up. And any young person wanting to work that hard has my respect. Very nice!
haha, that's how $125.00 works! No sweat..hehe
Wow, what a load of work!
woohoo! what a deal!
@ItsWhatEyeKnow - Glad I found them. Or they found me. Either way works! lol
@Randy7777 - Yep. Does this every spring!
Nice - winter sure does like to mess things up.
A great price for a job well done! Congrats!
@Chemalexandru - Yep, and I never even broke a sweat. Just the way I like it! lol
Good as new!
@Aloysius_son - Yes, it was. I'll never clean it up by myself again!
$125 seems like a steal to me! That was a lot of work.
@murisopsis - They did a great job. The hard working high school kid really impressed me, too!
Did a fine job too! Looks like it was $125 well spent... I bet you are relieved to have everything back to normal!
