My Pony bought the farm, so I bagged me a Deere!
I bought this Troy Built Pony back in the summer of '02, I think.
Took this pic the day I brought it home. Bought it to mainly cut my back yard, but since I was the only one on the block with a riding mower, I wound up mowing my 2 ( and sometimes 3 ) neighbors backyards too. It looks nice when it's done, kinda like a golf course, but that's a lot of grass! And, with gas at 3 and 4 dollars a gallon, it gets expensive.
The old Pony had been giving me some problems lately, tires always flat, battery needs charged, small stuff. I had put two new sets of blades on it and three deck belts thru the years. But Saturday was the last straw. Just as I finished mowing (after charging the battery and airing up the tires) the main drive belt broke. Seems the battery box had rusted out and the battery had dropped down and was rubbing on the belt.
Crap!
Now I was looking at new tires, try to get some sheet metal bent for a new battery box, new battery, and getting a new drive belt put on. Three or four hundred dollars, easily. I had a better idea.
I replaced it!
I got my first Deere!
And, considering what the dang thing cost, I hope it's my last one!
Got a nice little cover for it too, since it sets outside under the deck.
The cover fits nice but I wonder how long it will last.
Maybe my neighbors will all pitch in and help me buy a nice little storage shed to keep it in?
Hahahaha, keep on dreaming Bud!
Laughter is the best medicine, LOL.

Forest Gump. Hahaha
Nice.
@Joanna_said_SO - I don't know, he looks awfully fast!
You should race this guy.
your writing made me smile... ride on...
Nothing runs like a Deere! I hope you (and your neighbors) enjoy your new mower. Looks like you cover a lot of area with it!
@SassWithClass - The new one is a lot of fun!
@In_My_Own_Little_Corner - Thanks!
@droptop11 - I'll try to remember that!
@Ians_Incinerator - You're a lucky man!
@fauquet - Ah yes, it is green. John Deere green, as a matter of fact! Thanks, Michel!
It is impressing to see you driving your ancient Pony in that immense lawn . Even with this tracor it should be tiring .
The new one looks powerful and it is .....green !!
Good luck with it .
In friendship
Michel
You've got some great comments here, Bud; you ought to print this post and all of the comments and give copies to your neighbors. Maybe they might catch a clue and at least pay for some gas once in awhile. Being a good neighbor is one thing, but it gets a little sour when they take you for granted. A long time ago, I suggested you buy some sheep and turn them loose in your neighbor's back yards. They "mow" and fertilize the grass and you can sell the wool. =D
I hope your nieghbors gave you alittle tip to help out-they're expensive!
That's a very nice piece of equipment. I don't need one yet because my child bride is still happy (more or less) following her push mower around half an acre of lawn.
how very cool ! a machine like that would make lawn cutting fun. stay out of the river with it !
Congrats and enjoy!
lol. I wanna ride a tractor!
@buddly47 - LOL !!!
@pinkmojomama - Nah, they're nice people. Really! I'm the only one with a riding mower and it's too big to cut with a push mower. And it looks better when it's all cut at the same time.
I don't know your neighbors, or I would say they suck! (Perhaps they are nice people..eh?) I remember that pic from a long time ago when you posted about mowing their yards. Allan has mowed our neighbor's FRONT yard a time or two because they are lazy.
Enjoy the new ride!
@seedsower - LOL!
@Ricardo98 - Nothing runs like a Deere, cept for maybe Forest, eh?
@murisopsis - The hat is being mailed to me.
@jacksoncroons - It's a lot quieter than the old mower!
@perelandra30 - A 36" push mower has to be heavy! How do you manage to do that?
@anvilsandedelweiss -
@Bricker59 - Lots of big catfish and crappie. Hey Brick, any idea why Steve shut his site down?
@slmret - LOL, I could do that with a weedeater, Janet!
@PPhilip - It's a 42" cut. Anything bigger would make it hard to cut around the poles on my deck.
Your New mower is good for you and our neighbors.Yes you will keep mowing all the lawns as you say it makes ours look awful because they don't cut theirs at the same time. Keep dreaming about a storage building LOL. Love you.
The mower is nice Harold, but I'm still impressed by the view from your backyard of the grand Ohio River! Lucky!
ooooh, a John Deere! I know a few guys who would be extremely jealous!
No steel box is invulnerable to battery acid. I hope you've learned your lesson.
Your Nay-bors should not get a free lawn mowing. If they protest, no service, some cheapskates go too far in saving money.
More professional mowers have a wider cut rate, how big of a cutting swath do you have?
"Nothing runs like a Deere" The secretary has dinnerware with a Deere tractor on the plates, but her husband, son and father all love the tractors. They have fun restoring the old ones and competing in tractor pulls etc... Did they give you one of the hats to go with it?? If not I'd go back and ask for one!
Damon's got a little Power Wheels Deere in his room. Even has a pull-behind trailer to go with it.
yay : )
I mow nearly two acres with a push mower, 36" cut. I am drooling over your Deere!
She's purdy! Is it quiet? I'd hate to think you were disturbing the neighbors while you were mowing their lawn! Good luck with it, buddy!
Would you like to mow my yard? It's 6' x 20 '!
nice ride Bud.....and really nice chunk of land!!!
How's the fishing from your backyard?
my nayburz got a deere and i had to borry it ... nice nice traktor ... you should charge your nayburz just to watch you mow!!
Pretty cool. I think your neighbors ought to help pay for it, if you're doing their mowing.
@Aloysius_son - I would comment using my pic but I do not want you to drool on my head....you can drool on Donkey!
You are making me drool
Forest Gump would love it.
Keep dreaming is right,they don't even buy gas I bet???Nothing runs like a deer...I am glad that you got something nice for yourself....now put it to work!!
Man with a big yard needs a big, powerful tool to deal with it.
