Soupy Sales video-Inspired by Ed
Ed's entry this morning had me looking at Soupy's old videos on YouTube.
This is a classic.
Soupy Sales Show ~ Frank Sinatra & Sammy Davis Jr.
Question is, who's the third person at their table?
I know. Do you?
Soupy was born in North Carolina, but grew up here in the Tri-State area of Ky, Oh, and WVa. He graduated from Huntington High School and attended Marshall University where he earned a Master's Degree in Journalism. While attending Marshall College, he performed in nightclubs as a comedian, singer, and dancer. After graduating, he began working as a scriptwriter and a dj at radio station WHTN in Huntington.
Sales was born Milton Supman and got his unusual nickname from his family. His older brothers had been nicknamed "Hambone" and "Chicken Bone"; Milton was dubbed "Soup Bone," which was later shortened to "Soupy." When he became a disc jockey, he began using the stage name "Soupy Hines." After he became established, it was decided that "Hines" was too close to the Heinz soup company, so Soupy chose the surname "Sales," after comedian Chic Sale.
Here's another.

@buddly47 - I asked him too and he will sooner then later tell us.
My folk called the TV the boob tube, so I missed some of these classics. I have dino connect so I can't view them now. The good news is that I thought what I did see of Soupy was very funny material. He delivered lines like silk across your skin.
@jillcarmel - I went and asked him, but he's not saying anything.
I didn't even know Soupy had a show in the 70's. I thought he was done around 1956 when he pulled the " go into your dads wallet (when he's sleeping ) and mail me all the green paper."
Thanks for sharing this! I love being educated.
yes, you're the oldest Buddly-do you know how he ED KAZ got soupy to hold up the drawing of his?
@buddly47 - Probably not the only one old enough - but back then if you had a TV, you only had 1 TV, and if mommy and daddy didn't like the Pinkster, you were probably stuck watching Dinah Shore or something.
@jillcarmel - He did look a little like Mannix!
