Which side is your gas tank on?
Today I learned something!!
WHO KNEW THIS???I have been driving for nearly 50 years... I would think I should have noticed the little secret on my dashboard that was staring me in the face the whole time...I didn't...and I bet you didn't either...
Have you ever rented or borrowed a car and when arriving at the gas station wondered...mmm, which side is the gas filler cap?
My normal solution was to stick my head out the window, strain my neck and look, try to see in the side mirrors or even get out of the car!
Well ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to share with you my little secret so you will no longer look like Ace Ventura on your way to the gas station or put your neck at risk of discomfort or injury.
If you look at your gas gauge, you will see a small icon of a gas pump?
The handle of the gas pump will extend out on either the left or right side of the gas pump?
If your tank is on the left, the handle will be on the left? If your tank is on the right, the handle will be on the right (see photo). It is that simple!

That is the only way I know where it is,I get left and right mixed up (my mom's side of the family all have it,I am certain that it is a birth defect) If a vehicle does not have it I have to open the door and hang halfway out to check, looking retarded.
You can get a good one for under 10k if you look around. I have an '89 and it gives me so much pleasure knowing I didn't slit my throat to buy it.
@SaadiaOnline - Problem is, at my age, I also forget something every day
!
Wow--Bud!!! I guess it's true that you learn something new every day.
@gogreen3 - Are you sure the little arrow is not your turn signal?
@MaartenVenter - Good idea! Got 50 grand I could borrow?
@adventofreason - Nothing is ever "always true",is it,lol? Had no idea about the presets, huh? Maybe you and Gloria should take a road trip together, that could be an adventure worth writing about!hahahaha
And damn right-you are an Okie!! It's all part of what makes you the wonderful "you" that you are!
bud
Sorry to tell you this, but this isn't always true. Of course, I am your basic idiot when it comes to car knowledge. I had no idea for YEARS that those presets on the radio could be programmed in by the driver. I thought they just came that way and were a way of getting you to your desired station faster. I found out the truth not so very long ago and have now admitted it out loud for the first time. Good God, you would think I was an Okie. Oh wait. Crap.
oki
Get a Corvette. Gas tank's in the middle. No problem there.
@MorningGloria - Hahahahaha-That's hilarious,Glo!Hahaha
I didn't know about the the pump icon at all, either! Sister-in-law told me about it,LOL!
Well, geeze louise! I never knew! Reminds me of the first car I owned. The turn signals and high/low beams had been taken off the floor... how was I to know... I'd been driving mom's pontiac! Needless to say, my trip from Memphis to Florida, at night, was interesting. I drove nearly the whole way with my high beams on and no idea how to lower them... truckers were NOT happy with me. I finally found an open service station and the guy made me feel like a complete moron when he reached in and lowered them for me. LOL
sometimes there is a little arrow also. good tip.
