Doe with two fawns (and a big problem)
A doe with two fawns was crossing the parking lot today, so I grabbed my camera to get some wildlife pics. Didn't really notice at first, but when I zoomed in I saw that the doe has a badly broken right front leg and was just barely able to walk.
Looks like she's been hit by a car, maybe? A daily thing around here.
My first thought was to put the poor thing out of it's misery. but then, what about the two fawns?
They managed to get across the lot, and about a half hour later were grazing on the hillside right behind our building.
Never could get all three of them in the same shot.
So, what do you think? Should I do the humane thing, and take the doe out?
Or just let nature take it's course?
Any advice, Randy?
Or anybody?

Wow,those were some great shots,I love to see the spots still on the fawns.
@angi1972 - It's not really a waste of time,but I know what you mean,dear friend!
I shouldn't be back yet. I have so much to get done before summer is over and I have been wasting time on here... *sigh*
Probably I will take a couple days off again... For some reason this time of year I start feeling pressure to DO stuff... know what I mean? lol
@angi1972 - Are you back? I think I'm only about half here most of the time. Life, ya know.
@buddly47 - I bet... I'm sorry.
@angi1972 - Not in the past couple of days,Ang. Kinda glad, it was hard to watch.
I am all for putting her out of her misery and putting the fawns in rehab... but then I would have called the DNR probably and let them take care of it... Poor doe...
Have you seen them around lately Bud?
Nice photos. Tough situation.
I noticed from your profile that you are a Vietnam Vet. Thank you for your service! You're a great American in my book. I just finished reading John McCain's autobiography "Faith of My Fathers" where he details his time as a Vietnam POW. Brutal. We just don't appreciate you guys enough. Thanks again.
@buddly47 - It is really sad.....
@ilsurvive - She will probably eventually just lay down and not get up. Haven't seen her for a couple of days,so who knows? It's a shame, but nature can be cruel.
Oh, how horrible!
Are deer like horses when a leg is broken? I mean..will the leg never heal and eventually cause death to the deer anyway?
Can't you call some sort of wildlife refuge sort of place, and hey could come and get the deer and the babies and fix the deer's leg, if fixing it is possible??
@vexations - Thanks,Bill. I did. And I will! LOL
Impressive photos. I guess I would enjoy the bitch slapping and let nature take it's course.
I co-sign on MV's comment. That's a sad situation.
Man, you take some stellar pics though, Buddy.
Poor thing... Probably best to let nature take it's course.

@MaartenVenter - I think you may be right, Maarten.
Nice photos. I think you should let her be.
@buddly47 - That's too bad. They're pretty good about it here. Honestly, I would put her down. ( Sorry Cindy, I know it's sad.)
But I have a freezer full of venison... you didn't really wrench my heart. It is sad though.
That's sad.
I hate seeing an animal in that condition but she seems to be doing her motherly duty tending to her fawns.
Maybe call the local animal control and see how they would handle it.
There have to be rescue situations. Catch and release of some sort. I dunno.
Sorry I can't be of more help advice-wise.
No, don't delete it just because I am a big ol' baby. Sometimes the best thing isn't always the easy thing. I say leave it here. This is the second time I have read about someone in this same situation. Cowboychristian posted almost the exact thing a couple of months ago (or less). I think he put the doe down. I am assuming nature took its course with the fawns. It's just sad. : (
@adventofreason - I hate it too,Cindy. The fawns are foraging and look to be able to fend for themselves, I hope. Sorry I made you cry, maybe I should just delete this post?
I am the most worthless of people to talk to about this. Sitting here crying my eyes out. I hate when this stuff happens. I think that she does need to be put down, but what about the fawns? Isn't there anything that can be done for them. Perhaps you should just lie to me . . . I don't handle this sort of thing well at all.
@MooncatBlue - I doubt seriously if they would even bother looking for it, but that deer is in a lot of pain and in pretty bad shape,dear.
Don't shoot Bambie's mother. Wrench up my heart why don't you.
Actually, I would just alert your local DNR guy. Especially if it isn't the right season.
