  • What an awesome storm

I had never heard of a derecho storm. Have any of you ever seen, or heard of one?

So, this is what took the Cowboy's training camp down?

I was wondering why a 50 or 60 mph wind would bring it down, understandable after seeing this.

I don't think I ever do want to see one, up close and personal, at least!

  • I was attending an outdoor wedding a few miles from the storm when this derecho happened. It was raining heavily on the wedding tent. They do happen from time to time in Texas just don't hear about them since they are not as news worthy as the Cowboy's Training Camp.

  • Never heard of the type of storm before, but prefer to hear about most storm from a distance....the further the better.

  • When that newscast came out it was the first I heard of this type storm also. Mother Nature is a bizzare unforgiving beast isn't she? *hugs*

  • I've heard of derecho, but growing up I had a friend whose dad was a meteorologist and kids love to learn, so I'd always listen when him (or anyone) who talked about something new.

We get all kinds of crap in the East KY, but I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that...biggest storm we've had that I remember has took some sheets of metal off from an old barn, but thats about it

  • Whoa. that's craziness.

  • I've never heard of one, no, but that's scary...

  • WOW looks like a sideways tornado.

  • I've lived in Oklahoma all my life, and while I've never heard that type of storm actually called a derecho, I've seen it plenty of times.  We get all the weird crap here.

  • yes, it is what brought down a plane here in DFW  I forgot the year and that is why they don't want planes to fly in bad weather.

  • Never even heard of  a derecho . We get some wicked wind in the valley that swirls around til it exhausts itself because we are surrounded by hills. Takes the cover right off a greenhouse!
